Having been to Morton's in Chicago, I automatically assumed that this restaurant would be on par. I was so wrong. You had to fight your way through 2 sets of doors wondering if you are at the right place this was certainly not very welcoming at all.

The restaurant could certainly do with a face lift. Our party of 5 were placed in a spill over room which I assumed was hastily set up for large parties with badly behaving children and other guests that you may want to hide away.

The place was filled with waiters who all appeared to be running around like headless chickens except for the young lady who served us our wine. Our lobster bisque was cold, which fitted in with our summation of the evening. My tuna tacos may have tasted better if they were from "Taco Bell". Our overall impression of the food was no more than a 3 out of 10.

This place may have been good at one point in time and just going downhill fast. This is one restaurant that I would never go back to.

We couldn't get seated at Houston's so we went here. Very good experience, quick and attentive service, very good food, especially the filet mignon and the lemon pie

Steaks are now smaller.
They must do this so a couple will not share.
Place is not what it used to be.

Even upon arrival I was concerned the entrance lobby is drab and unwelcoming. although the hostess welcomed us with a smile. The restaurant was not busy, which is strange as the place right next door (Houstons) was packed, it always is.
The restaurant itself is old and the décor very different from what I expected, drab colours, old fashioned seating and in general it looked tired. Now I can do old fashioned when it is oak panelled walls and stylish lighting, but this was just cold and lacking in atmosphere.
Anyway the menus came up and our waitress told us about the specials ( Never order specials in Miami, as you will get a shock when the bill turns up ) Anyway this is clearly a high end restaurant, which is fine if the product matches the pricing, unfortunately it does NOT here.
Knowing the American portion size I passed on a starter although a friend had the Onion Soup which he enjoyed, for a main dish I ordered a Mixed Grill of Fillet Mignon ( Medium Rare ), Prawns and Scallops, the others ordered a Sea Bass dish and 2 steaks.
Now Morton's offers the typical steak house loaf on the table, which you have to rip apart, but for some reason no butter knives are even available, so you have to use your main knife for everything.
Anyway I was looking forward to my steak, which upon arrival was a big disappointment, clearly overcooked, more like MW than MR, I cut into it and showed the waitress who accepted it as wrong and took it away. So for me that immediately ruins a night, I came to eat with friends, not watch them eat and then have them wait and watch me as my meal is delayed.
So after 5 minutes my meal came back, yes a new steak had been prepared, but they still served the same Prawns, Scallops and vegetables. Now to me that is not acceptable, if the dish consists of multiple items and one is wrong then the whole dish is wrong. The Scallops if cooked correctly to be ready with the steak cannot simply be kept warm for another 5 minutes whilst a fresh steak is cooked, the whole dish should be recooked ( have they never watched Gordon Ramsey ). So I commented on this to the manager who told me this is how they do it, NOT to me at $49 was my reply, so yes they then prepared more fish items, which I had to eat after finishing my steak, not exactly the way it was planned.
Clearly the attention to detail in this restaurant is poor, and probably because of poor management, led by the GM who in my opinion was not interested in putting things right.
Other things that were less than appealing were, a glass of wine that had to be replaced because of a floating item in it, Cold serving of Broccoli, and the missing bacon in the Sprouts with Bacon dish, the Steak Sauce lid was dropped to the floor at out table, and then placed on our table. Also the problem with the special dessert which we were told should be ordered along with our steaks as it took a while to prepare, due to dietary issues our friends asked for the Chocolate cake to be served on a separate from the Ice Cream, the waitress assured this would be done, it was not. The Manager then suggested that another one could be prepared in minutes, if so then why did we need to order it in advance?
Now of course some of these smaller issues on there own are no big deal, but when they all fall into the same service at an expensive place, it is not acceptable.

The managers expression of apology was insincere and his offer of non charging for 2 glasses of wine, 1 beer and a soda, is not in my opinion sufficient.

Having been to Morton's in Chicago, I automatically assumed that this restaurant would be on par. I was so wrong. You had to fight your way through 2 sets of doors wondering if you are at the right place this was certainly not very welcoming at all.

The restaurant could certainly do with a face lift. Our party of 5 were placed in a spill over room which I assumed was hastily set up for large parties with badly behaving children and other guests that you may want to hide away.

The place was filled with waiters who all appeared to be running around like headless chickens except for the young lady who served us our wine. Our lobster bisque was cold, which fitted in with our summation of the evening. My tuna tacos may have tasted better if they were from "Taco Bell". Our overall impression of the food was no more than a 3 out of 10.

This place may have been good at one point in time and just going downhill fast. This is one restaurant that I would never go back to.

We couldn't get seated at Houston's so we went here. Very good experience, quick and attentive service, very good food, especially the filet mignon and the lemon pie

Steaks are now smaller.
They must do this so a couple will not share.
Place is not what it used to be.
Service is there but I feel the quality has suffered.
Much prefer Capital Grill.

the best steak ive tried is at MORTONS, no palm or joes can be compares to mortons, and their Legendary hot fudge sundae altough some times takes a while its LEGENDARY.

Having been invited by good friends and heard some good reports about Morton's, I was actually looking forward to a quality night out, but no I was totally let down by our Morton's experience.
Even upon arrival I was concerned the entrance lobby is drab and unwelcoming. although the hostess welcomed us with a smile. The restaurant was not busy, which is strange as the place right next door (Houstons) was packed, it always is.
The restaurant itself is old and the décor very different from what I expected, drab colours, old fashioned seating and in general it looked tired. Now I can do old fashioned when it is oak panelled walls and stylish lighting, but this was just cold and lacking in atmosphere.
Anyway the menus came up and our waitress told us about the specials ( Never order specials in Miami, as you will get a shock when the bill turns up ) Anyway this is clearly a high end restaurant, which is fine if the product matches the pricing, unfortunately it does NOT here.
Knowing the American portion size I passed on a starter although a friend had the Onion Soup which he enjoyed, for a main dish I ordered a Mixed Grill of Fillet Mignon ( Medium Rare ), Prawns and Scallops, the others ordered a Sea Bass dish and 2 steaks.
Now Morton's offers the typical steak house loaf on the table, which you have to rip apart, but for some reason no butter knives are even available, so you have to use your main knife for everything.
Anyway I was looking forward to my steak, which upon arrival was a big disappointment, clearly overcooked, more like MW than MR, I cut into it and showed the waitress who accepted it as wrong and took it away. So for me that immediately ruins a night, I came to eat with friends, not watch them eat and then have them wait and watch me as my meal is delayed.
So after 5 minutes my meal came back, yes a new steak had been prepared, but they still served the same Prawns, Scallops and vegetables. Now to me that is not acceptable, if the dish consists of multiple items and one is wrong then the whole dish is wrong. The Scallops if cooked correctly to be ready with the steak cannot simply be kept warm for another 5 minutes whilst a fresh steak is cooked, the whole dish should be recooked ( have they never watched Gordon Ramsey ). So I commented on this to the manager who told me this is how they do it, NOT to me at $49 was my reply, so yes they then prepared more fish items, which I had to eat after finishing my steak, not exactly the way it was planned.
Clearly the attention to detail in this restaurant is poor, and probably because of poor management, led by the GM who in my opinion was not interested in putting things right.
Other things that were less than appealing were, a glass of wine that had to be replaced because of a floating item in it, Cold serving of Broccoli, and the missing bacon in the Sprouts with Bacon dish, the Steak Sauce lid was dropped to the floor at out table, and then placed on our table. Also the problem with the special dessert which we were told should be ordered along with our steaks as it took a while to prepare, due to dietary issues our friends asked for the Chocolate cake to be served on a separate from the Ice Cream, the waitress assured this would be done, it was not. The Manager then suggested that another one could be prepared in minutes, if so then why did we need to order it in advance?
Now of course some of these smaller issues on there own are no big deal, but when they all fall into the same service at an expensive place, it is not acceptable.
